Dr. Amer Omar returns to Montreal from the internationally renowned Moorfields Eye Hospital in the United Kingdom where he was a Consultant Ophthalmologist. Dr. Omar is a recognized expert in the diagnosis and management of diabetic retinopathy, age-related macular degeneration, retinal vascular disease, posterior segment uveitis and ophthalmic genetics.

Dr. Omar is a medical graduate of Queen’s University. He is dual certified in Ophthalmology and Family Medicine having completed training in both specialties at McGill University. He further undertook subspecialty fellowship training in Medical Retina in the United Kingdom. Dr. Omar is the recipient of multiple awards including the Professor’s Prize in Otolaryngology from Queen’s University, McGill University’s resident research award for two consecutive years, in addition to the fellowship scholarship award from the CNIB (formerly known as the Canadian National Institute for the Blind). He has authored several peer reviewed articles on various topics including the pathophysiology of temporal lobe epilepsy, the genetics of age-related macular degeneration and inherited photoreceptor dystrophies.
