Vascular Occlusions

What is it?

The retina is an active metabolic tissue that requires substantial energy to function. The retinal circulation is therefore vital to achieve those needs. This circulation can be affected by blockages, aneurysms, emboli, etc. similar to the rest of the body.

These complications can occur in the arterial system (which carries blood to the eye from the heart) or the venous system which carries blood from the eye to the heart).  They can also affect major blood vessels or peripheral branches – with varying degrees of resultant symptomatology.
