Retina Laser Treatments
This treatment is considered an outpatient procedure involving the application of laser energy to the retinal tissue.
It is indicated for several pathologies including but not limited to:
1) Peripheral retinal tears to prevent detachment (Peripheral laser retinopexy)
2) Diabetic Retinopathy (Pan-retinal photocoagulation)
3) Diabetic disease or Vascular occlusions (Macular laser)
What can you expect?
This procedure is done on a microscope similar to the examination microscope. A magnifying lens instrument is usually applied to the eye to aide in the visualization of the retinal tissues following application of topical anaesthetic drops, this is also to prevent eyelid closure during the procedure.
Light energy is applied to the necessary retinal areas. The patient usually sees flashes of white green or red light with application.
Are there any side effects?
- Transient red-pink vision immediately upon procedure completion
- Headache the evening of the procedure
- Transient Flashes
- Vitreous hemorrhage
